In today's society, many computer geek-types find amusement in creating unrest via Urban Legends.
The most recent one I have been made aware of was in a group e-mail. The myth perpetrated is than in addition to the "date rape" drug Rohypnol, another chemical called Progesterex is being used on college women. Allegedly this drug is commonly used to sterilize horses and is used in the vetenary industry, and will also render the women it is used on sterile.
Well this is indeed a hoax, and a sick one at that. Watch out for group e-mails which spread doom and gloom such as the "Hotmail" staff chainletter which warns you to forward it to as many people as possible or else your account will close.
Obviously, do not accept any e-mails as genuinely from Hotmail unless it comes from the Hotmail Staff account! You can tell because they send one per user, and you usually cannot reply to them.
Simply use your common sense, most chainletter style e-mails are designed to crash the networks of large companies by creating an unusually large amount of traffic. It's just not cool, man.

Simply Perform A Search
If in doubt about an issue you suspect to be an urban legend, simply go to an internet search engine and check it out. There are many people who are hell bent on preventing these lies becoming ingrained into the public subconscious, and they often spread the word of truth via the internet. But are they really telling the truth?
